Gengoya Daily (言語屋デイリー / 每日言语屋) is an iOS Japanese-vocabulary app built by Otters Lab ("we," "us," or "our"). Gengoya Daily shows you a new Japanese word every day on a Home Screen widget and offers illustrated word-card packs you can purchase.
We built Gengoya Daily to be private by design. There is no account and no login, and your data lives only on your device. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used. The short version: we do not collect, upload, or store any of your personal data. We collect nothing. The app does not collect, receive, transmit, or store any personal data, and we operate no servers that receive your information. We do not ask you to create an account or sign in.
The following data is created and stored only on your device, and is never sent to us or to any third party:
This data is shared, on the same device only, between the app and its Home Screen widget through an Apple "App Group" container. It never leaves your device.
The pronunciation feature uses iOS's built-in, on-device speech synthesis (AVSpeechSynthesizer). Audio is generated locally on your device. No audio or other data is uploaded to us or any third party.
Word-card packs and the one-time "Unlock All" option are sold as in-app purchases handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store, using your Apple ID.
Gengoya Daily contains no third-party SDKs, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and do not present App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompts because there is nothing to track.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone, because we do not collect any. The only third party involved is Apple, solely as the processor of your in-app purchases, governed by Apple's privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
You are fully in control of your data:
Because your data stays on your device and we never collect it, you already have direct access to and full control over your information at all times.
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK (GDPR/UK GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your data, and to object to processing. You can exercise these rights directly on your device by viewing, editing, or deleting your data.
If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA), you have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal information, so there is nothing for us to disclose.

Your data is protected by your device's built-in security, including the passcode, Face ID / Touch ID, and the encryption provided by iOS. Keeping your data on-device and out of our hands minimizes exposure.
Gengoya Daily is suitable for all ages, has no user-generated content, and includes no social features. Because the app does not collect any personal data, no information from children (or anyone else) ever reaches us.
Your data is stored on your device wherever you are located. Because we do not receive your data, we do not transfer it internationally. Any processing of your in-app purchases is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above and post the updated policy at otterslab.com. We encourage you to review it periodically.
